On December 21st, the planets Jupiter and Saturn – which are actually more than 400m miles apart – will appear to come together in the night sky, forming what is called a “Great Conjunction”. This is one in a series of meetings the planets make roughly every 20 years, due to Jupiter’s orbit of less than 12 years around the sun lining up with Saturn’s, which is 29.5 years long. On the night of the conjunction, the planets will seem as if they’re separated by about one fifth of the diameter of the typical full moon, appearing to touch or form a single brilliant heavenly body. Besides its visual dazzle, this event has special significance through an astrological lens: it marks the official shift from a 200 year period during which Jupiter and Saturn made conjunctions primarily in Earth signs into a 200 year period of conjunctions in Air signs, marking the advent of a new epoch in a larger 800 year macro-cycle. “In astrology, a conjunction is formed when two or more planets line up exactly. When they line up, their vibrations blend and work together. A Great Conjunction happens when Jupiter and Saturn align.” WHAT BETTER TIME TO DECLUTTER AND DECORATE YOUR SPACE? The planets are aligned and you know that when all the moon and stars are aligned it’s time to get moving in the right direction. You know that incredibly satisfied, almost elated feeling you get after a decluttering session in your home? Decluttering can do wonders for the way you feel in the space you call home and can impact not only how your space looks, but more importantly how your space makes you feel. With a little bit of tidying and organizing, you can shake off negative emotions and begin to enjoy your surroundings a lot more. You know what they say: Clear home, clear mind.
A FEW TIPS TO START WITH YOUR PROCESS: Letting go of sentimental items Often it can be hard to know when to let go of a sentimental item. However, key signs are; if an item stops giving as much joy that used, it’s starting to annoy you in your home, feel like a burden, or if you’re keeping it out of guilt or to please someone else it’s time to let it go. Many of my clients try to keep grandma’s chair or mom’s china just for the sentimental value and tend to clog their flow and overall vision in their space. “Your home is your space, you should only be keeping things in there that bring you joy in this current stage of your life.” This astrological alignment in the atmosphere is a time to declutter and get rid of all the energy that is not producing what you have envisioned. Consider the new items you buy Decluttering does not work if the items are to be instantly replaced by possessions you have not thought through. Apply this same critical thinking to the items you pass on. Before accepting or buying items, ask yourself: “Is this item truly aligned with how I want my home to feel and function?” It can be easy to fall into the trap of buying or accepting something because it is on sale or we see it as a quick fix to a problem. Often times, clients will buy several items they “like” and have a difficult time making it work or flow in their home cohesively. Love your stuff You can still love the items you’ve collected over the years! I encourage keeping your treasured items, so if you love it, know you’ll find a place for it. I guide my clients to keep a few of these treasured items out and finding a place to store the remaining items. Often bringing them out and changing them up can bring new joy and admiration for these items. I HAVE DESIGNED AN ENTIRE ROOM AROUND GRANDMA’S RED CHAIR ONCE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE IN KEEPING THOSE ITEMS THAT CAN SHARE A STORY OR A HAPPY MEMORY.IN CONCLUSION, LETS TAKE THIS TIME WHEN THE PLANETS HAVE ALIGNED TO ALIGN OUR OWN INDIVIDUAL SPACE.
